Legacy of the Divine Tarot

KING OF CUPS: With the changes that are possibly coming for September, it will be important to stay calm and composed despite what may be going on around you.  You will be able to help others by having a soothing, peaceful effect on them. If friends or family seem to be agitated or worried, use your King energy to encourage a sense of feeling centered and grounded.  Use your diplomatic skills to bring more harmony to those who are tense or anxious.
THE STAR: Not only will serenity be important this month, but also significant will be feelings of hopefulness coupled with light-filled expectations. You will have peace of mind, knowing that being divinely inspired will see you through any challenges. Spend time relaxing, and this will help you spread calmness and inner strength as you go about your day. Stay focused and untroubled, and tranquility will be yours.

THE HIGH PRIESTESS: Use your intuitive ability to see past the obvious, because things are rarely what they appear to be at first glance. Allow yourself to be open to the mystery and uncertainty of what is going on in the world, and to see the possibilities that are unfolding right before your eyes.  Your inner knowing is more important now than ever before, so have faith in what you are feeling, and let it lead you. Believe in your own guidance and intuition before seeking direction from others, because you have the skill to do this if you will just trust.

THE WORLD:  You are in a good space during the month, so savor the feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction, knowing that your actions have brought you here.  This is an important time to stay connected and to contribute to the overall good of others and the community. You will find contentment in feeling involved and actively pursuing your goals, seeing if you can expand them to encompass more than yourself.  Be grateful for all that you have as you see some of your dreams come true; you are helping to create a more beautiful, giving, and bountiful world.
TRENDS FOR THE MONTH: The major trend for September will be to stay calm and focused, allowing your energy to flow freely so that you have a peaceful effect on those around you. Change can invoke stress and anxiety, but you will have the capacity to rise above fear as you generate serenity, hopefulness, and inspiration. Your intuition can play a major role if you will allow it to come forth and if you trust what your inner voice is telling you.  You can feel as if everything is right with the world, despite world events and discord, if you will recognize what you can do within your sphere of influence to create balance and harmony. This is also a month of accomplishment as you reflect on the goals you have achieved and where you want to go from here. The world is your oyster!

Blog #48:  The Many Health Benefits of Turmeric

 Retrieved from www.theheartysoul.com

Many of us are familiar with turmeric because it is a flavorful spice used in curry and even gives the yellow color to mustards, butters, and cheeses.  We may think of it as a spice, but it is actually the root stalk of a tropical plant that belongs to the ginger family.

A surprising thing about turmeric is that it has a wide array of health benefits, some of which go back to ancient times.  The main substance of turmeric that is responsible for its healing properties is curcumin.

Fresh turmeric is available at Chinese and Indian supermarkets. A more convenient form is powder, found in ordinary grocery stores.  However, to enjoy its many health benefits it also comes as a supplement in tablets and capsules available in health food stores.  There is even turmeric tea for those who prefer it this way.

Why is turmeric so healthy for us? Its main ingredient, curcumin, is an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory properties which form the basis for a variety of healing purposes.  The Journal of the American Chemical Society says that turmeric has not just antioxidant characteristics but also is antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anticarcinogenic, and antimutagenic.

Turmeric also contains good nutrients such as protein; dietary fiber; niacin; vitamins C, E, and K; potassium; calcium; copper; iron; magnesium; and zinc.

So it is no wonder that turmeric has been used for thousands of years in Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic medicine for conditions such as heartburn, diarrhea, stomach bloating, colds, fibromyalgia, and even depression.

Some of the health benefits

Much research has focused on the health benefits of turmeric (and its important ingredient curcumin), and here is a partial list of these.  However, authors caution that more research needs to be done, and patients should always consult their medical professionals when considering turmeric for serious illnesses.

Ø  Turmeric may help with heartburn, upset stomach, diarrhea, and digestive disorders.  One study found that turmeric supplements were more effective for heartburn and indigestion than a placebo.  Its ability to help with upset stomachs has been known for generations, and only recently have studies shown this to be true.  One author states that turmeric helps the gut get rid of harmful bacteria, and people in countries who use a lot of turmeric in their cooking have lower cases of digestive problems. Because turmeric helps the liver function better is one reason why it helps with digestion overall.

Ø  Turmeric may help with heart health.  It helps break up artery-clogging cholesterol, thus possibly preventing strokes and heart attacks.  One study found that it could reduce the chance of heart attacks among bypass patients.

Ø  Turmeric may delay the onset of diabetes.  A 2012 study found that it delayed the onset of type 2 diabetes due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant powers, as well as its ability to reduce insulin resistance.

Ø  Turmeric may help fight cancer.  One researcher found over 200 studies related to turmeric and cancer, but notes that these were animal studies and that human research is in the early stages.   However, one author states that current research is showing much promise in helping with pancreatic cancer, one of the most difficult to treat.

Ø  Turmeric may protect the brain.  At least 50 studies have shown positive effects related to Alzheimer’s disease, because turmeric blocks the formation of the substance that generates the growth of plaque in the brain.

Ø  Turmeric may help joint pain, tendonitis, and both types of arthritis—osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The curcumin in turmeric has more than 24 anti-inflammatory compounds which lessen this type of pain.

Ø  Turmeric may be considered a natural antiseptic, has anti-bacterial properties, and may help with skin damage.  It has been used for centuries as a method of cleaning wounds and destroying microbes that cause infection. Sprinkling turmeric powder on a cut or burn may speed up the healing.  It also may reduce skin redness and perhaps even fight signs of aging.

Ø  Turmeric may strengthen the immune system.  It contains a substance (lipopolysaccharide) that enhances the immune system, in addition to its properties as an antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal agent.

Ø  Other health benefits cited at least once in the sources given at the end of this article include:

--Turmeric may be a natural fat burner.

--It may be useful in treating depression.

--It may help to lower cholesterol.

--It may be considered a remedy for headaches.

--It may lower cortisol levels, thus reducing effects of stress (such as sleep problems) and blood sugar levels.

Conclusion

Although there is much evidence that backs up the health benefits of turmeric, it is always best to do your own research, talk with your medical professionals, and come to a decision that is right for you.

Tarot Reading for August 2015
AND
 Blog #47: The Heart-Brain Connection

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

QUEEN OF SWORDS:  During the month it will be important to express your truth and let your real self come through. If you sense that something does not seem quite right, then ask questions or probe further until you get answers.  You can use your intuition to feel if something feels off-kilter, so trust what you are getting. Cut through what is not important so you can get to the heart of the issue without wasting time.

FAITH:  Your belief system guides you in your daily life, so now is a good time to ask yourself what do you truly believe.  Do you have trust in divine guidance and ask for help when you need it? We are all on our own spiritual journeys, and we have a divine purpose in this lifetime. We must have faith that we will find it. Putting your beliefs into practice will help. For example, if you believe that you will be shown the way to finding your true purpose, then start now to meditate on this, seek out mentors or others who can help, do your own research, find books or other means that will open you up to understanding more about what you are drawn to learn.
4 OF CUPS:  Think of what your vision is of your future, or your dreams of what you would like to achieve. This is a good first step in bringing your ideas into physical reality. But you can’t stop there. You need to take action steps to manifest the dreams you have envisioned. Set one or two goals related to your vision, and then write a few specific ways in which you can accomplish these goals.
THE HIGH PRIESTESS:  We are all intuitive.  If you do not believe this, start doing small things that will give you more self-confidence, such as: (1) Stop doubting, for this only puts up a block. (2) Learn to tap into an awareness of your body so you can start noticing when you are getting an intuitive message. Yoga, meditation, or conscious breathing can all help. (3) Start guessing about inconsequential things, such as who might be calling you before looking to see who it is. (4) Think of a problem or issue you are dealing with, and set an intention that you will find or see something that will give you a clue about what the answer is.  Then go out in nature to discover what may help you. (5) Act on hunches you get rather than ignoring them; or when you have a decision to make, go with your first instinct rather than second-guessing yourself.  Use common sense, and ask yourself if your intuitive answer is the best in that situation. Also, remember that intuition gives us just one possible route to take; it does not command us to follow it. See it as a gift that can help you deal with life in wondrous ways by focusing on intention and attention.
TRENDS FOR THE MONTH: Express your truth, and do not settle for anything less than the truth from others. If you do not get a direct answer, cut through all the unnecessary words to get to the heart of the issue. Believe in yourself, and identify your values and beliefs.  Focus on your visions by taking specific action steps to make them happen. Set just one goal, and work on several ways to achieve it. It’s ok to take small steps at first.  Believe in your intuition; cultivate and practice using it.

Blog #47:  The Heart-Brain Connection

There is more to the heart than meets the eye, or more than what we were taught in school. We know that the brain is responsible for the functioning of the body and that the heart works hard pumping blood to all parts of the body.

However, did you know that the heart produces a powerful electromagnetic field that can be measured?  The body’s most powerful and extensive rhythmic electromagnetic field is generated by the heart. In fact, the heart’s field is about 60 times more powerful than that of the brain, and affects all body cells. This is due to the heart’s huge neural communication network that connects the heart with the brain and body.

The heart chakra is one of the main energy centers within the spiritual and emotional bodies, being responsible for emotions, spiritual health, and even nervous system functioning. But what is unique is the scientific research showing that the heart practically acts as a second mind with its own sense of awareness.  No longer must we believe that the brain is the only organ associated with the mind.  In fact, it is possible that the brain alone is not responsible for conscious awareness. Recent research points to consciousness as a result of the brain and body acting together, with the heart playing a big role here.

The Institute of Heartmath is a non-profit research and educational organization founded in 1991 in Boulder Creek, California. It focuses on the science of the heart and how it is related to the brain, the nervous system, and the Earth’s magnetic field.  Their research is showing that the heart can be described as a “little brain” (or “heart brain”) with intuitive intelligence all its own and not dependent on the mind.

In addition, research in the new branch of neurocardiology says that the heart is a sensory organ that receives and processes information. The heart’s nervous system (“heart brain”) allows it to learn, remember, and make decisions on its own, without the involvement of the brain’s cerebral cortex.

There are different heart rhythm patterns generating a continuous series of electromagnetic pulses that have effects on cognitive and emotional function, as well as the entire body.  It has been shown that the rhythms of the brain and the heart naturally synchronize together.  When the heart’s signals to the brain are ordered and stable, we experience positive emotional states that help with cognitive function, positive feelings, emotional stability, and perceptual clarity.  Learning to increase our heart rhythm coherence affects our perception, thoughts, feelings, and performance in a positive way.

Stress, however, creates a heart rhythm pattern that is erratic and disordered, which prevents the brain from performing higher cognitive functioning. When we are under duress, we have problems thinking clearly, remembering, reasoning, learning, and making effective decisions.

Another interesting fact is that the heart gives out a powerful and measurable electromagnetic energy field that actually interacts with the energetic fields of those around you.  This means that it plays a role in our interactions with others.

We generally think that we communicate mainly through words and non-verbal signals (such as voice tone, gestures, facial expression, body movements). But now the evidence is showing that there is an “energetic” communication system just beneath our conscious awareness.  This could explain why we are attracted to some people but not others, because these energetic exchanges affect relationships and social interactions.

As one author explains it:

“The heart—this beating lump of muscle—is in a way a little like a smart phone, invisibly connecting us to a large network of information.  It is through an unseen energy field coming from the heart that humans are profoundly connected to all living things.  This energy of the heart literally binds us to each other.  Every person’s heart contributes to a ‘collective field environment’.” (http://www.wakingtimes.com/2013/04/26/unlocking-the-intuitive-intelligence-of-the-heart/)

The Institute of Heartmath helps people, organizations, and the global community incorporate practical heart-based ways to reduce stress, build resilience, and use intuition to make better choices.

Here is a tip from the Institute about an easy way to calm yourself when feeling stressed:

(1)  Heart focus—close your eyes and gently focus your attention in the center of your chest in the heart area.

(2)  Heart breathing—Keep your focus in the heart area and gently breathe five seconds in and five seconds out. Do this two or three times.   (This helps your respiration and heart rhythms to synchronize.)

(3)  Heart feeling—Focus on good feelings by activating and sustaining a true feeling of appreciation or gratitude for someone or something in your life.   Or recall a positive feeling by remembering a time when you felt a sense of comfort or calm inside and try to re-experience it. (For example, it can be a beautiful place in nature you like to visit, a person you love, a pet, or a favorite activity.)

Conclusion:  Exciting research is showing not only the amazing connection between the heart and the brain, but also the important role the heart plays in how we deal with our world.  Having coherent and ordered signals from the heart to the brain can help us live a calmer, more peaceful life.

Tarot Reading for July 2015

AND

Blog #46: Chakras and Your Health

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

3 OF CUPS:  Have some fun this month by going out with friends or loved ones, or simply find ways to enjoy yourself.  Let go of the stress of daily living by remembering that we were meant to have pleasure in our lives.  Find something to celebrate, even if it is a birthday or a holiday like the 4th.  We don’t always need a reason or event to bring playfulness and happiness into our lives, so find even one little thin even one little thing to celebrate each day, and be grateful for all of your blessings.
7 OF COINS:  Use some time during the month to think about your future and where you want to be. If we don’t have an idea of what direction to take, we may never get there.  So set some goals—even small or short-term ones—and think of what you can do to reach them.  This is a good time to plant seeds to achieve your aspirations, remembering that it takes time for seeds to grow.  Patience is required; what is truly important does not happen overnight.  Set goals, write a few steps that will help you achieve them, and then act on them. A bright future can be yours if you start getting ready for it now.
DEATH:  Change continues to happen, and now is the time to let go of the past.  Major transformations are taking place in the world even though we may not be aware of them.  The same thing is happening on an individual basis, so decide now to make one change that will allow you to leave behind old ways of doing or thinking to make way for a bright new future.  Anything is possible, so grab whatever opportunities come your way, releasing whatever is no longer serving you.
THE EMPRESS:  The beautiful Divine Feminine energy will be prominent this month, so focus on your loving, nurturing, and supportive side.  Let go of resentments, fears, or anything else that is blocking you from recognizing the beauty, grace, and creativity that resides within you. Let this wonderful light shine through you, spreading love and kindness wherever you go.  What we give out returns to us, so expect a wonderful month of this loving energy coming back to you many times over and in unexpected ways.
TRENDS FOR THE MONTH:  A sense of joy and celebration is in the air, so find things that will bring happiness into your life.  Let go of your serious side and take time to play, remembering that you deserve some relaxation time to be with others whose company you enjoy.  Decide if you are happy with your life right now, and if not, then start setting even just one small goal to get headed in a direction that is right for you and will bring you more happiness and peace. This may require taking a risk, releasing fears of what the future holds, and making a change, but now is the time.  Be filled with the creative Divine Feminine energy, bringing kindness and unconditional love to others. Watch how this can reverberate back to you in many different ways, and expect wonderful things to happen.

Blog #46:  Chakras and Your Health

 Image retrieved from www.tia-ma.com
The word “chakra” comes from the Sanskrit word for “wheel”, because chakras are actual spinning wheels of energy within our bodies.  There are seven major chakras and more minor ones.

You can envision chakras as “invisible, rechargeable batteries. . .charged and recharged through contact with the stream of cosmic energy in the atmosphere” (http://www.zenlama.com/the-7-chakras-a-beginners-guide-to-your-energy-system/. Just as our homes are connected to a central power source, so too are we connected to an energy source that is free.

Chakras also connect our spiritual and physical bodies, and control energy flow through meridians of energy running through our physical bodies (similar to the wiring in a house).

Chakras can get blocked due to stress as well as other emotional or physical problems. When energy can’t flow freely or the spinning of the chakras is hindered, we become out of balance, which may result in physical illness or disease.

Because it is so important to understand how each chakra works and its associated parts in the physical body, given below is a synopsis of what happens physically when a chakra is out of balance.

1st or Root Chakra (Color: Red—earthly grounding and physical survival)

Location: Base of spine near tailbone area

This is a great time to recognize how your efforts are paying off, and that you are in a better space than you were just months ago.  Be sure to gather facts and have all information presented to you before making a decision about something important. And above all, trust what your intuition or gut feelings are telling you. Have fun as you enjoy time with friends and family, feeing a sense of comfort and joy while being in the presence of those you love.

Blog #45: Is Wireless Technology Really Dangerous to Our Health?

Retrieved from www.skyhdwallpaper.com

Wi-Fi was introduced in 1997, and since then researchers have tried to figure out if it poses a danger to our health.  The results have been mixed, with some saying it is dangerous and others saying we don’t need to be worried about it.

Some research studies include concerns that Wi-Fi:

Ø  May contribute to insomnia:  A 2007 study showed that participants exposed to electromagnetic radiation from cell phones had a significantly harder time falling asleep, and there were also changes in their brainwave patterns.

Ø  May be damaging to childhood development and to children: Two studies found that growing fetal tissues are especially susceptible to non-thermal frequency radiation from Wi-Fi and cell phones.  And in 2011 Canadians were encouraged to limit cell phone calls, especially those under age 18.

Ø  May affect cell growth: A study performed by Danish ninth graders with two sets of plants showed the plants grown in a room with no wireless radiation grew normally, while the plants grown next to two routers  (releasing the same amount of radiation as a cell phone) didn’t grow at all.

Ø  May Interfere with sperm: Not only does heat affect sperm count, but research has shown that exposure to Wi-Fi frequencies reduces sperm movement and causes DNA to fragment.

Ø  May increase risk of cancer:

n  A 21-year old woman with no family history of cancer developed breast cancer exactly on the spot where she carried her cell phone in her bra.

n  In 2011, an agency of the World Health Organization classified wireless radiation as possibly carcinogenic, meaning that there could be some cancer risk, so more research is needed addressing the long-term, heavy use of wireless devices.

n  Studies conducted from 2012 to 2014 raised medical concerns about malignant brain tumors that could result from cell phone use.

Ø  May cause stress and fatigue: High artificial electromagnetic frequencies have been shown to disrupt the body’s natural energetic field, which can lead to stress, fatigue, and DNA changes that decrease resilience over time.

Cell phones and some tablets give off radio frequency (RF) energy waves. This is a type of radiation that is not strong enough to directly affect atomic structure or damage DNA.  But it does cause atoms to vibrate, and is dangerous at very high levels.  Therefore, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) sets safety guidelines limiting RF exposure, and all hand-held wireless devices sold in the U.S. must comply with these limits.

Steps to reduce exposure

Since the results are inconclusive about the extent of harm we are exposed to because of Wi-Fi and cell phones, some cautionary steps can be taken to limit possible dangers:

Ø  Limit the length of cell phone calls.

Ø  Replace cell phone calls with text messages or use hands-free devices.

Ø  Increase the distance between the wireless device and your body.

Ø  Encourage those under age 18 to limit their cell phone use.
