Blog #56: What to Do If the Law of Attraction Doesn't Always Work for You

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

JUSTICE:  This month it would be good to practice being fair to yourself.  Spend time with self-care—giving yourself whatever your body and intuition are telling you is needed.  Perhaps it is a nap, taking a little time by yourself to gather your thoughts or just being alone in silence, doing something fun that you haven’t done in a while, or thinking of yourself before giving and giving to others.  Remove the blinders that convince you these sorts of things are selfish, for they are not. By putting yourself first when the need arises, you are bringing greater harmony and balance into your life. And this is something that is especially important in a world that seems topsy-turvy at times.

THE LOVERS:  A partnership may be prominent this month, whether it relates to romance, personal relationships, or business.  For any kind of relationship to prosper and grow, careful listening and communicating are necessary, as is a willingness to compromise when an impasse appears imminent.  The self-care noted above is also significant here, because a good relationship does not require you to give and give without receiving anything in return.  Solve problems mutually by being willing to listen to the other person’s viewpoint without judgement. Stay in a place of calmness and peace when disagreements arise, allowing your partner or friend to have his/her say before jumping in with your opinion.  Take a few deep breaths before speaking if you feel any anger creeping in, for it is not about “being right” but being honest, tactful, kind, and supportive.

THE EMPEROR: Feel the powerful energy and strength of the Emperor this month, easily dealing with whatever blocks or challenges you encounter. Demonstrate your power to yourself by doing something daring—something you would not ordinarily consider doing. Do one thing to get out of a rut that will bring a little more sparkle into your life. You have control over your life—only you, no one else—and the Emperor helps you remember this. The Emperor is not afraid of change nor his own authority; he is the epitome of courage, independence, and individualism. He is respected and admired. The power you have within you (and your positive thoughts) do make a difference in your outer reality.

5 OF CUPS:  If during the month you experience some rough times or challenges, the best thing you can do for yourself is to not stay too long with feelings of doubt, fear, frustration, regret, or sadness.  It is ok to experience these feelings for a while, but don’t wallow in them feeling sorry for yourself.  After you are ready to move on from your “pity party”, you can being to think of all the things that are going right in your life and all that you are grateful for.  Gratitude goes a long way towards putting us in a better space, because it requires us to focus on appreciation rather than sadness.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends or family if you feel like it; sometimes outside support is better than going it alone.  Our lives always include ups and downs, but how we respond to the downturns is what strengthens us and gives us the inner power to keep going.

TRENDS FOR THE MONTH: Overall, this month should be one that empowers and strengthens you.  Take care of yourself, remembering that receiving is just as important as giving, especially if you want a balanced and truly loving relationship with others. Communication with partners will be important, so share with partners or close friends how you truly feel about issues. It is all about being open and sincere. Feelings of strength and power will see you through rough times, as long as you don’t spend too much time harboring negative feelings of lack, sadness, or loneliness.  You have what it takes for May to be a wonderful month, so make it happen!

Blog #56:  What to Do If the Law of Attraction Doesn't Always Work for You

 Retrieved from www.soulguidance.co.uk
The Law of Attraction, simply stated, says that what we put out will come back to us. It gained popularity with the book and movie “The Secret” as related to attracting abundance into our lives.

However, everyone is not always successful in using this law to bring into their lives what they want, such as a new job, more money, a relationship, good health, etc.  Why is that?

Not considered when some people are not successful when using the Law of Attraction is the importance of at least three things:  (1) Their feelings and how this impacts the results they get;  (2) the importance of simply allowing to happen what you have put out to the universe and hope to attract into your life; and (3) aligning themselves with qualities that raise their vibration.

One key, as an author states, is to change your mindset from wanting—which implies lack—to the belief and feelings that you already have what you desire.  “Feeling abundant allows you to receive abundance.” (http://creationthoughts.com/)

When we move into the “as if” feeling, we change our whole mental and emotional state that opens us up to receiving.  This is far different from us worrying or complaining, which is simply resistance to what we want. In essence, we are creating a frequency—a vibration—that is more in tune with and matches the frequency of what we want to bring into our lives.

Another author states that allowing involves trust, patience, and faith that what we want will show up in our lives as it is meant to. There is no need to manipulate, dominate, or control other people or situations.  Yes, action is important, but this must be balanced with the ability to let things simply evolve and happen according to what is right for us.  We cannot see the big picture, because our perspective is limited; the universe/spirit sees a much broader viewpoint and therefore knows what is truly right for us.

To practice allowing means:

Ø  Accepting things as they are.

Ø  Trusting that things will work out the way they are meant to.

Ø  Believing that the feelings, experiences, successes, and outcomes you want are on the way.

Ø  Letting yourself receive these gifts with ease and gratitude.

Ø  Understanding that everything is ok exactly as it is.

Wayne Dyer refers to the law of attraction as the Power of Intent.  He says: “The law of attraction is this: You don’t attract what you want. You attract what you are.” (http://creationthoughts.com/)  Rather than demanding what we want, we put out the request to the universe and then let it bring to us what we are asking for according to what is in our best interest.  We don’t know what this is, but the universe does.

He also talks about raising our consciousness by practicing four virtues: (1) reverence for all life (unconditional love and respect for ourselves and other beings; (2) natural sincerity (honesty, simplicity, faithfulness); (3) gentleness (kindness, consideration for others, sensitivity to spiritual truth; and (4) supportiveness (service to others without expecting a reward).  If we do this, we enter a higher vibration which makes it easier to bring into our lives what we desire.  That is, we are operating at a frequency that is more in tune with attracting good things into our lives.

Another aspect of allowing comes from Anita Moorjani (who wrote “Dying to Be Me” about her near death experience). She says:

"To me, allowing does not mean just sitting and waiting and doing nothing.  We still take action, but the action comes from following our heart, and from allowing things to unfold. It comes from a different place. . . .Allowing means listening to my intuition. The way I do this is by asking myself, ‘Am I doing this out of love or fear? Am I doing this because I want to do this?’ " (https://celestialreasoning.wordpress.com/2015/01/15/state-of-allowing-by-anita-moorjani/)

The key is to ask yourself are you doing things because you love yourself, it’s fun and bring joy? Or is it because you are afraid of not doing it?

So, if you have been having trouble attracting what you want, ask yourself if you are:

(1) allowing to unfold what is meant to happen for you (rather than being tied to expectations about exactly how you want things to happen);

2) aligning yourself with qualities that raise your vibration;

(3) having the right reason for asking what you want; and

(4) acting “as if” and truly believing that you already have what you desire.

Tarot Reading for April 2016

  AND

Blog #55: The Healthful Benefits of Himalayan Salt Lamps

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

2 OF COINS: You may find yourself faced with some decisions during the month that could have an impact later on.  It will be important to trust your intuition as well as what your logical mind is telling you.  Although the choices will not necessarily be “life or death”, you will still want to consider the various alternatives carefully before deciding on a course of action.  Try taking a playful approach to the whole situation, and then just go with what your heart and your mind are telling you.  Heart-centered decisions are the best way to make choices that are for your highest good.

7 OF WANDS:  During the month it may be important for you to take a risk and get out of your comfort zone.  It is ok for you to hesitate about this, thinking carefully before proceeding.  But as with the 2 of Coins, it would be wise to meld your heart and mind for the best results.  It may take courageous action on your part, but remember that to do absolutely nothing is a decision in and of itself.  Push yourself a little as you decide what to do, and after careful consideration, go with what seems to be the best approach.  Have faith that your strength will support you.

THE HERMIT: Inner soul-searching is the order of the day as you go within to find out where you are on your path and where you want to go. Are you happy with what is going on in your life now? Do you realize that change is necessary but don’t know where to turn? Have you tried meditating but are getting no answers?  Whatever your situation, find a way to spend even just a little time alone to sort out your thoughts by leaving behind the noise and distractions of daily life. You can ask others for advice about what you should do, but in the final analysis you are the one who has to figure out what is best for you.  Ask your higher self to step in and give you guidance.  Ask for help, keeping in mind that the difference between praying and meditation is that when we pray, we are talking to source, the universe, and/or our guides, and when we meditate we are listening.

8 OF CUPS:  The many changes occurring in the world will continue, perhaps at an even faster pace.  Coinciding with this situation are the personal transitions occurring in our lives.  It is not just change we are talking about, but true transformation.  This is why the decisions you make this month may be far-reaching for your future—do you want to just stand still and perhaps feel miserable, or do you want to take a chance and do something that can change your whole outlook as well as your life itself?  Release what has been holding you back, and strike out on a new path.  t is up to you what you do with this energy of transformation that will be affecting us this month.

TRENDS FOR THE MONTH:  April can be an exciting (and maybe even scary) month.  It will be a time of not standing still any longer, but perhaps even forcing ourselves to make some decisions that can result in profound results.  Dissatisfaction with our lives is good, because it requires us to look critically at our current situation and choose to do something about it.  We truly do have all the answers within us, if we will only trust and believe that this is so.  Some actions to consider this month are meditating, taking some alone time, choosing carefully when a decision is required, taking a risk, getting out of a self-imposed comfort zone, accepting that change is a constant, and allowing decisions made to be heart-centered.

Blog #55:  The Healthful Benefits of Himalayan Salt Lamps

 Retrieved from www.facthacker.com

Himalayan salt lamps are either large pieces of Himalayan salt with a small bulb inside, or smaller pieces of salt in a decorative container with a bulb nestled among  the pieces.  The colors can be white, opaque, pink or orange.
It is important to ensure that the lamp is made of pure Himalayan salt rather than merely rock salt, so ask about the origin to verify that you are getting the real thing.  For example, Himalayan salt is food-quality and can be consumed.

It should be noted that there is controversy about the true origins of what is called Himalayan salt, but it is only semantics.  Some seem to think that pink rock salt is usually from Pakistan, but the Himalayas do extend into Pakistan, so that is not really an issue. The main thing is that the salt is of high quality.
What are the benefits of salt lamps?

Here are some of the benefits that are attributed to salt lamps.  Not everyone agrees with all the beneficial qualities, so use discernment when deciding whether to get one for the health benefits.

Ø  Himalayan salt lamps cleanse and deodorize the air by removing dust, pollen, cigarette smoke, and other contaminants from the air.

Ø  They reduce allergy and asthma symptoms by removing microscopic particles of dust, pet dander, mold, mildew, and similar particles from the surrounding air.

Ø  They help your body filter the air more efficiently so any harmful particles that you might breathe won’t get into your lungs.  This is accomplished because the salt produces an increase of cilial activity. (Cilia are the microscopic hairs lining the windpipe.) The lamps also ease coughing through this same process.

Ø  They help neutralize electromagnetic radiation coming from electronic equipment such as televisions, computers, cell phones, tablets, appliances, etc.

Ø  They enhance the quality of sleep and promote more regular sleep patterns.

Ø  They improve mood and concentration not only by helping to increase the blood and oxygen supply to the brain and other organs, but also by heightening serotonin levels.

Ø  They help with seasonal affective disorder by providing a soft, natural light that somewhat resembles sunlight.

Ø  They can also help with skin conditions, stress-related disorders (such as the insomnia mentioned above), and headaches/migraines.

So how do Himalayan salt lamps produce these benefits?
In a nutshell, the salt lamps are natural negative ion generators.  Negative ions are good for us, and they occur more often in nature through lightning storms, wind, sunlight, moving water (waterfalls and ocean waves), and are even released by plants during photosynthesis.

On the other hand, positive ions (known as “free radicals”) are often created by electronic devices such as computers, TVs, microwaves and even vacuum cleaners.  Constant exposure to electromagnetic radiation can result in chronic fatigue, increased stress levels, and a decrease in the body’s immune response. Also, airborne mold, bacteria, and allergens often have a positive charge.

Negative ions neutralize (or at least lessen the amount of) positive ions (by bonding to the positive ions), and this is what helps clear the air and makes us feel better.  Also, negative ions increase the oxygen flow to the brain which results in higher alertness, less drowsiness, and more mental energy.
The lamps purify the air through a process called hygroscopy, which means that the lamps attract water molecules from the surrounding environment and absorb into the salt these molecules and any impurities they carry.  The lamp warms up the water molecules, and this now-purified water is released back into the air through evaporation.  The trapped particles of dust, pollen, smoke, etc. stay locked in the salt.

One issue that causes some to question the efficacy of salt lamps is that it is difficult to measure the amount of negative ions that are produced by the lamps because there are many variables to be considered. However, an interesting side note is that NASA uses negative ion generators to help astronauts recover after a journey into space.
Where to place salt lamps

The lamps should be placed in rooms where you spend most of your time, or where most of your electronic equipment is.  Good choices are bedrooms, living rooms, and offices.
It is best to keep the lamps on at all times so that their positive effects can be maximized.

Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause the salt crystals to start melting, so they should be kept away from dishwashers, washing machines, or showers.

Final note
If you question the health benefits, do your own research and come to your own conclusion.  However, the lamps are beautiful and do seem to bring a peaceful, calm atmosphere to the rooms they are placed in.  As usual, though, use your own discretion.

Tarot Reading for March 2016

 AND
Blog #54: A Few Types of Meditation

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

10 OF COINS:  March is shaping up to be a month of abundance, with good things happening.  See the results of your work and efforts start flowing to you as you enjoy the bounty that is on the way.  You may experience abundance not just in finances, but in any area related to the physical world—job/career, health, home, and/or sense of stability and security.  Start out the month by visualizing what you want and do the work that is needed to make it happen.  If you have already put forth the energy, be patient as you see what unfolds.
JUDGEMENT:  This month would be a good time to evaluate where you would like to see yourself in the next several months or a year.  Feel rejuvenated and inspired to do something different that can help propel you forward.  Perhaps you are ready for a change or just want to focus on something new. Take stock of where you are and ask yourself questions such as “Am I happy with my life right now?” “Is there anything I can be doing besides my same routine?” “Am I ready for a change?” “Should I take a risk and see where it leads?”  Remember that there are unlimited possibilities waiting for you if you will just give yourself a chance to explore them.
QUEEN OF SWORDS:  Do your best to stand in your own truth and let your authentic self shine through. Take action based on what your intuition is telling you to do rather than accepting what others want you to do.  Listen to your heart, for it is the source of who you truly are.  Do not give away your power to others by letting them make decisions for you, nor allow them to sway your thinking despite doubts that their way may not be best.  Listen to your own inner self and go with your gut instinct.
9 OF CUPS: Satisfaction and fulfillment can be yours this month, because good things are in the works.  Look forward to positive outcomes that will bring you joy and delight.  As with the 10 of Coins, success is on the horizon, and this is another indication that you are on the right track.  Whatever you have done up to this point has been part of your divine path, so give yourself credit for all the positive actions you have taken.  Sit back for a while and enjoy the abundance that you so richly deserve.  Be grateful for all that you have accomplished and all that you will do in the future.
TRENDS FOR THE MONTH:  What a beautiful month March is shaping up to be!  Both the 10 of Coins and 9 of Cups bode well for you enjoying the results of the work and effort you have expended.  Look for abundance not only in major things such as financial gain or a job upgrade, but in the everyday little things that can bring enjoyment and satisfaction on a smaller but equally important level.  The other two cards, Judgement and Queen of Swords, encourage you to look objectively at yourself and ask honest questions. While in this feeling-good space of things going well, take time to look deeply within to get to the core of your authentic self and recognize the truth of how you want to live your life.  Then you will be able to bask in continued joy and contentment.

Blog #54:  A Few Types of Meditation

When people think of meditation, the most obvious picture that comes to mind is someone sitting on the floor with legs crossed and eyes closed.  Many people, of course, do practice meditation this way, but it is by no means the only way.

First of all, you can meditate in any position you like—sitting on the floor, sitting in a chair, standing, lying down, walking.  Your eyes can be open or closed, or you can focus on an object, such as the flame of a candle.  Even yoga and qigong are considered forms of meditation.  You can meditate alone or in a group.

Some teachers say that meditation is a state of mind related to awareness and acceptance. If this is so, then you can meditate any time in the middle of any activity. (See “mindfulness” meditation below.)

The purpose of this short article is to give a few types of others kinds of meditation that can be practiced.  Perhaps you will find one that works for you, or maybe you have been meditating all along in your own way that felt right to you, but didn’t know that it was “meditation”.

There are many more kinds of meditation than those listed below, but this is a good place to start if you want just a quick summary.

Concentration: This type of meditation is what it implies—you train your mind to focus on an object, your breath, a mantra (a meaningful word or phrase) or nothing at all, so that all distractions are removed.  This lets the mind be calm and still, which has a positive effect on the body by removing stress and tension.  It is recommended that beginners start with the simplest thing to focus on—your breath.

Several types of concentration meditation are: transcendental meditation (TM), om, and chakra.

Open Awareness: The idea here is to open your mind to whatever is happening around you without focusing on anything specifically.  For example, you could focus on the blue sky with clouds floating by, or a river that is moving swiftly in a current, or the stars that you see on a clear night.  The idea is to be present with whatever arises.

Mindfulness:  One author states that this is the most popular and widely researched meditation in the western world.  It is a combination of concentration and open awareness.  In this type of meditation, you focus on an object (breath, bodily sensations, thoughts, feelings, or sounds).  You can extend your focus to daily actions, such as eating, walking, driving, or doing housework.  The key is to pay attention to whatever you are doing, rather than simply acting like a robot and then realizing you did something without being aware of it.

Some examples of mindfulness are:  deep breathing, body scan, visualization, mindful breathing, mindful eating, seated meditation, walking meditation.

Guided meditation:  This may be the best technique for you if you find the idea of focusing on your breath to be boring.  In a guided meditation, you listen to a recording that elicits certain images, affirmations, states (such as calmness) or imagined desired experiences.  Guided imagery has been used to facilitate health and well-being, and is even used to rehearse successful outcomes of surgeries or athletic performances.

Reflective Meditation:  This is also called disciplined thinking, in which you choose a question, theme or topic to focus on.  Then you reflect on it or analyze it.  At first, your mind may wander to other topics, but you keep coming back to the topic in question.  For some people, starting out with the concentration meditation would be helpful before moving on to this type.

Examples of ideas to focus on include: Who am I? What is my life purpose? What is my role in this universe?

Heart-Centered Meditation:  This type of meditation can help you release fears and focus on loving kindness and compassion.  Another name for it is the heart chakra meditation.  In this technique, you would choose a quiet place, select the position that is most comfortable for you, and focus on the heart area.  Inhale and exhale slowly but smoothly. You can also connect with the heart of a person whom you feel is compassionate and loving.  This is also a good technique to use if you want to help change the negative energy that exists in parts of the world today.  Set an intention to spread love, kindness, and compassion to all the people in the world who are suffering.  Buddhist monks focus daily on the cultivation of compassion in their meditations.

For more in-depth information on meditation and how to do it, one good source is Meditation for Dummies by Stephan Bodian.  Of course, there are other good manuals available, as well as numerous articles, so you can go on-line to find resources that might appeal to you.

Tarot Reading for February 2016

Blog #53: The Many Benefits of Flaxseed

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

8 OF SWORDS:  You may be feeling somewhat indecisive about an issue or problem that is bothering you, but now is not the time to do simply nothing.  Take a few moments to think through what might be the best course of action, even listing pros and cons of alternatives if that would be helpful.  Remember that to do nothing is making a decision, and the results could very well not be in your favor.  So instead of waffling back and forth, or just postponing what may be a difficult choice, just go ahead and do something.
4 OF WANDS: Things will start looking up this month, especially if you have felt that you were in a murky, unclear place where confusion reigned.  The good news is that you are entering a time of peace and calm, a time of replenishing yourself now that the new year is getting underway.  You will start feeling more stable and secure as you look optimistically towards the future, so use this time to evaluate your goals and see if you are headed in the right direction. Good times can be in your future, so let them happen.
TEMPERANCE: This month can be magical in a wonderful sort of way, allowing the alchemy of change to take place. You can transform a challenge into something that will bring more balance into your life, and you can allow yourself time to do this.  Patience is important right now, so there is no need to rush anything.  Moderation is also helpful, so show self-restraint when necessary. Changing ourselves may take time, but it’s worth it. So look for ways to bring in more harmony by letting two completely different things lead to the creation of something new and different—a synthesis of two elements combining and resulting in a unique way of doing or perceiving to create a better outlook.
7 OF SWORDS:  Some type of deception may be lurking about, so stay on your toes and keep your eyes open to what is going on around you.  This dishonesty or untruthfulness could be coming from others or from yourself.  So ask yourself:  Am I being above board with how I feel? Am I giving myself excuses for not doing something that would benefit me because I just don’t want to, or are scared to?  If others are the problem, be tuned in to your intuition so you can spot this negativity easily, and either confront the person or just move on.  This energy could be the instigator for something new coming into your life.
TRENDS FOR THE MONTH: This could be a month of some ups and downs, but you will have the patience and optimism to deal with whatever happens.  Make a decision about challenges and then move on, rather than vacillating back and forth and not doing anything.  Stay upbeat and hopeful, because good things are on the way.  Practice patience as you make changes, bringing visions and goals into fruition; use caution in dealing with others to detect if anything seems suspicious.  Ask yourself if you are being honest with yourself and if not, find out the source of this feeling and do something about it.
Blog #53:  The Many Benefits of Flaxseed

Retrieved from www.eyedoctorguide.com
History

Flaxseeds (or linseeds) come from flax, which is one of the oldest fiber crops in the world.  Linen and other textiles have been produced from flax for over 3,000 years.  It has been considered not only as a source of food and fabric, but also has been used to make sails for ships, bowstrings, and body armor.

Although flaxseed oil is one of the most commercial uses of flaxseed, the nutritional benefits of flaxseeds are being increasingly recognized.  Research over the past 10 years is showing that flaxseed is extremely healthy for the body.  However, even way back in the eighth century King Charlemagne was so sure of the health benefits of flaxseeds that he passed laws requiring his subjects to eat them.

Why flaxseeds are so good for us

Here is a list of what flaxseeds contain that make them so valuable for our health.

Ø  Lignans—Estrogen-like chemical compounds that help to remove free radicals from the body because of their antioxidant qualities.  Flaxseeds are the main source of lignans in human diets. These antioxidant benefits include anti-aging, hormone balance, cellular health, and anti-viral and antibacterial properties.

Ø  Essential fatty acids—Most of the fatty acids in flaxseeds are alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), one of three omega-3 fatty acids.  When eaten, ALA is converted into other more powerful omega-3s.  The best way to consume flaxseeds for maximum omega-3 benefit is through flaxseed oil.

Ø  Flavonoids—Compounds that lower “bad” cholesterol.

Ø  Fiber (both soluble and insoluble)--Makes up 28% of ground flaxseed and helps with digestion and cholesterol levels.

Ø  Vitamins and minerals—Includes most of the B vitamins, magnesium, manganese, iron, potassium, copper, zinc, phosphorus, and selenium

 Possible health benefits

NOTE:  To get the most benefits from flaxseeds, they should be bought in ground form or ground before eating, because whole flaxseeds may not be digested when passing through the digestive tract.

Although recent research is suggesting that flaxseeds might live up to their beneficial claims, be aware that there needs to be more high quality studies done to confirm these claims.

The possible health benefits included in the literature thus far are:

Ø  Cancer protection—Some studies have shown that consuming flaxseed may protect against prostate, colon, and breast cancers.  These results may be related to the anti-inflammatory qualities that flaxseeds have as well as the omega-3 acids they contain.

Ø  Digestive health—The ALA omega-3 fatty acids help protect the digestive tract lining and improve the intestinal absorption of nutrients, thus maintaining the health of the gastrointestinal tract.  Also, they can help reduce inflammation of some digestive ailments.

Ø  Alleviation of post-menopausal symptoms—Flaxseed may help reduce the risk of hot flashes, thanks to the estrogenic properties of lignans.

Ø  Cardiovascular benefits—The ALA omega-3 fatty acid can help protect blood vessels from damage caused by inflammation and may help regulate blood pressure.  It also may help lower bad cholesterol.

 How to consume flaxseed

There are a variety of ways that flaxseed can easily become a part of your regular diet:

Ø  Sprinkle ground flaxseeds onto hot or cold cereal, cooked vegetables, or soups and salads.

Ø  Add flaxseeds to muffin, cookie, or bread recipes.

Ø  Add ground flaxseeds to breakfast shakes or smoothies.

Ø  Mix one tablespoon of flaxseed into yogurt.

Ø  Add it to tomato sauces or to casseroles.

Some people do experience side effects when eating flaxseed (such as bloating, flatulence, stomach pains, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea), so if you have a sensitive digestive system, talk with your medical professional or do your own research before adding flaxseed to your diet.

There are many reasons to include flaxseed as part of your diet to become healthier, but only you can make the decision that is best for you.
